Quod Facimus Id Perficimus

This is me foolishly celebrating before crossing the finish line, having mistakenly believed that I helped my 4x400m team win the race:

It seems really dumb, but it actually wasn’t all THAT bad.
By the time I got the baton, the other runners were at least 20-30 metres ahead – because our 3rd runner unfortunately collapsed 10m before reaching me, after winning us a nice lead..
But I actually managed to catch up, and overtake the others, as the picture below shows. Not bad eh?

HOWEVER, as I was approaching the line, and thought I was already crossing it, I lifted my hands (and thus slowed down) in relief... “phew, we made it! XD”
but too bad. Narasyimha did what all true athletes do at the finish line: he stretched forward with all that was left in him (just like this sentence).

LESSON LEARNT
When running a race, carry through all the way. It doesn’t matter how gloriously we began. Or how wonderfully we kept up the glorious pace. You’ve gotta make it till the very end. Not just to the point a fifth of a second from the finish line – which is where I lifted my hands. It must be past the final destination.
So whether our race is a commitment like:
- school
- exams
- relationships
- dreams
- life
endure till the very end. Let’s not slack till we’re done.

The title for this post is actually my old school’s motto. It’s Latin for “what we do, we carry through.”
Once, a T-Shirt shop made a mistake and spelt it as “what we do, we carry trough.” Interestingly, the grammatical error actually contained a marvellous insight.
Think about the connotation of a wave’s trough – a decline in performance or potency, as in an economic recession.

So when you fail to carry through what you do, you end up having to carry trough

=D
